Lung cancer is the #1 cause of cancer deaths throughout the world. Carcinogenic radon gas has been named “the most important cause of lung cancer after smoking” by the World Health Organization (WHO).
It is estimated that anywhere from 3-14% of all lung cancer deaths in a given country are caused by radon. In the United States alone, radon will kill nearly one quarter of a million people over the next decade.
During Radon Action Month, we will show weekly snapshots from around the world, featuring countries with robust national radon programs, as well as those who are in the early stages of establishing radon action plans and research. Radon is not only a threat here in the U.S., but a worldwide threat, and one that we can prevent on a global scale by combining our knowledge, resources, and dedication to the cause.
